Kinetic Type Piece for Motion Graphics, Fall 2011.
Luvena Leslie is known for her curly hair makeovers so I was excited to have the opportunity to use my web makeover skills on Luvena’s existing website. Luvena’s salon is on Audubon St in New Haven and she’s also applying her styling gifts on Tuesdays in West Hartford.
Project update! The first issue of ‘counter craft’ is almost done. Here are some pages from the zine.
I have started a research project called ‘counter craft’. The project blends my interests in art, craft, history and social change. As a website, ‘counter craft’ will serve to collect and comment on the various aspects of modern craft, specifically craftivism. Although its roots can be traced further back in history, craftivism is a term coined in 2003 by Betsy Greer which she defines as “the practice of engaged creativity, especially regarding political or social causes.” Through this project I hope to explore the tension between mass-production, our needs as makers and how craftivism can be a force to address discontent with a postindustrial world.
Love Local Design now has a blog! Posts will focus on the latest work by Love Local and events that I will be participating in. I will be spending time (err, the very limited free time I have) crafting up some apparel and accessories to add to the Love Local Shop. I am hoping to have some items and promotional materials together for the holiday season.
